Team USA’s Men’s Freestyle Goes 7 for 7 at the Spanish Grand Prix

Coach Bill Zadick traveled to Madrid, Spain with his team, for a tune up before the 2017 World Championships in Paris, France next month. Fielding a squad of 7 of the 8 World Team members, Team USA finished with gold medals around their necks at every contested weight class. Titan Mercury Wrestling Club’s Thomas Gilman, Logan Stieber, James Green, Kyle Snyder and Nick Gwiazdowski all won their respective weight classes. Along with TMWC wrestlers, Zain Retherford of the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club and Jordan Burroughs of the Sunkist Kids, also claiming gold.

Titan Mercury’s Kyle Snyder won all four matches 10-0 for a combined total of 40-0 points scored for the day. Jordan Burroughs also matched that feat. TMWC’s Logan Stieber was unscathed as well going 39-0 overall in his four bouts for the day. Another impressive showing was from newly added World Team member, Zain Retherford, who won with three pins and a tech, also not relinquishing a single point throughout the entire tournament.

Overall Team USA was 25-0 for matches won in the Men’s Freestyle tournament. USA earned 17 tech falls, 14 of which were by a score of 10-0 or higher. Team USA also earned 4 falls for the day. In overall points scored, Team USA was 243-16 in points scored and points surrendered.
