Dennis and Snyder Make Olympic Team
By: Jason Welch
Two Titan Mercury athletes made the Olympic team tonight by besting their opponent in the final best-of-three series: Daniel Dennis and Kyle Snyder.
At 86 kg Kyle Snyder lost the first match to Jake Varner, and then came storming back to a second match win and then a decisive third match win. Snyder is just 19 years old and the returning world champion.
At 57 kg Tony Ramos faced fellow Titan Mercury athlete and Hawkeye Daniel Dennis. Dennis beat him two matches in a row to make the Olympic team. In the second match, Dennis took down Ramos and then locked up a gut wrench for four consecutive turns and a technical fall.
Taking second place for Titan Mercury is Victoria Anthony. Anthony lost the first match at 48 kg to Haley Augello, won the second, and then dropped the last match. In similar fashion, Kyle Dake mounted a comeback against J’Den Cox by losing the first match and winning the second. However, Cox, who looked monstrously large at this weight class, was able to pull out the win in the final match. Also in second place is Victoria Francis, who fell in two straight matches to reigning world champion Adeline Gray at 75 kg.
